From Old Habits die hard to Imagine That

Paradigm shift

  • everything goes back to zero

  • everything is challenged

  • previous successes guarantee nothing

  • previous experiences and knowledge blind us to new ideas

  • new paradigms (rules and regulations) come from outside

  • new paradigm leaders have to trust in their judgement.

As a leader we need to know about the emerging technologies, predict and trust in our jedgement

First statement to judge: Learning in schools will be replaced by learning anywhere - rate the likelihood 1 - 10

Why is it so difficult to predict change? Our world is changing constantly... society is changing,

What is the trend for your school? What is the trend for your students?

Why are people afraid of new technology?

Why are people hesitant/resistant to talk about technological change?

Change arthritis - activity to do with cluster - powerpoint will be uploaded

"Blogging bandwagon" - term used by workshop organiser - grrrrrr

We were asked to go to different corners of the room in comparison to our position on blogging, podcasting and using cell phones in the classroom. The majority of people in our workshop were in the don't know or have sort of started section, but disturbingly large number in the don't care section.

Two teachers in the middle - want to start but don't have the tech... we are going to link up and I'll help them later.... ha ha ha, two excited teachers on board.... want to but don't realise how simple it is to start.

Plot staff members in our staff - Maverick - change buster! - Expert shifting fields - - The Tinkler/Problem Solver - - Novice - does not know it cannot be done

Know your staff and target separate groups within staff with different kinds of pd opportunities.

It;s ok to experiment and take risks, push the edge and MEAN IT

Let them find their own answers
